Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a derma roller procedure that utilizes tiny sterilized needles to prick the skin. The aim is to stimulate new collagen growth for healing the skin so you can appear younger. Mostly done on the face, it improves the skin’s appearance by treating scars, large pores, and wrinkles for more toned and smoother skin.
Depending on the treatment area, the procedure can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. While the duration of results depends on the individual receiving the treatment, they typically last anywhere from four to six weeks. To maintain and enhance results, we recommend regular microneedling treatments every one to two months.
Before we administer any treatment, we ask all patients to undergo a consultation with one of our providers. This allows us to learn more about the results they’re looking to achieve, any medical conditions that could interfere with the treatment or results, as well as assess the skin. Once we’ve determined that this is the right treatment for you, we’ll go ahead and get you scheduled for your procedure.
Prior to your treatment, we’ll prep your skin by cleansing it and applying a topical numbing cream. Once the cream begins to take effect, we’ll go ahead and begin the procedure.
Using a derma roller, we’ll create micro-injuries throughout the targeted area. These micro-injuries will stimulate the production of collagen as the skin works to heal itself. A serum is then applied to the treatment area to help promote the healing process.
Following the treatment, your provider will discuss aftercare instructions with you to help you achieve full results. You may experience some redness or swelling which will reside a few days after the procedure.
